What is a coach?

There are many definitions for a coach out there, but no definitive definition.

One of the definitions that I feel explains the role the best is from the International Coach Federation (ICF).  They describe coaching as a partnership with clients in a thought-provoking and creative process that inspires them to maximize their personal and professional potential.

Coaching combined with EFT/TFT Tapping and Neuro linguistic Programming can help individuals who are experiencing many different life experiences including the following:

·         A lack of clarity, focus, goals, purpose, in motivation

·         Confused thinking, poor planning, or execution

·         Chronic low self-confidence and or low self-esteem

·         Feeling like you are not living up to your full potential in life

·         Negative emotional reactions to past events due to underlying beliefs

·         A life transition or change such as a divorce, death, or career change

·         A lack of results in attaining set goals

·         A block in direction and knowing what path to take next

I think it is also important to know that coaching is NOT counseling, consulting, therapy, mentoring, or structured training.

In my view, Life Coaches are there to support and challenge their clients while encouraging change, growth & development.

In order to accomplish this, coaches must also:

·         Ask the right questions to understand client beliefs, needs, and goals

·         Believe that the client is the only expert on their own life experience, beliefs & circumstances

·         Listen to understand the circumstances of their client

·         Encourage, support and believe in their client, regardless of whether a client believes in themselves

·         Challenge clients to improve self-awareness to assist them in recognizing what is holding them back

·         Offer an objective assessment and direct observations assist in the clients' self-awareness and or awareness of others in their lives

·         Foster shifts in perspective and thinking to provide an expansive view of their circumstances or outcomes

·         Discovery, clarification, and alignment with client goals and outcomes

·         Assist client during the goal setting process by clarifying and maintaining clear goal focus

·         Encourage client on their journey of self-discovery

·         Elicit client to creatively develop their own personal strategies and solutions for action

·         Hold clients both responsible and accountable for their own outcomes and actions

·         Create a non-judgemental environment for the client to feel safe in

·         Maintain professional boundaries in the coaching relationship, including confidentiality, while adhering to a professional code of ethics
